Is This All There Is to Life? How to Find Your Life’s Purpose

It sometimes happens that we’re suddenly faced with a big question that we don’t really have any answer for. We find ourselves asking if this is really all there is to life. We wake up, take care of the kids, work, go home, take care of the kids again, sleep, and repeat the process the next day and the next and the next. Before you know it, your life has become a big blur that you find yourself sleepwalking through it. You find yourself asking painful questions that you don’t want to face, and you find yourself wanting, dissatisfied, and unhappy.

If you find yourself in this situation, then here are some tips to find happiness and purpose in your life.

Find What Makes You Happy

The stress and pressure of your day-to-day life has more than strangled your happiness. It has subdued and suppressed it, that you feel like you’re merely functioning and not really living the moments.

To get away from the feeling of emptiness, you need to make a list of what makes you happy. Your children, spouse, parents, siblings, career, the colors of dawn, the smell of fresh grass, eating an ice-cream, anything, really, that you find joy in. Once done, make a list of the things that make you sad. It may be your lack of enthusiasm for your job, an illness, a bad habit, your partner who takes you for granted, anything that gives you negative feelings.

Address the Negative Feelings

Look at both lists and compare them. Ask yourself what you can do to eliminate your negative feelings and enhance those that give you positive ones. Do you need a new job, one that’s fulfilling? If you do, then focus on the things that you like doing. Say for example you love painting, baking, or cooking, then why not make these hobbies as a sort of alternative source of income. You can sell your paintings or set up a catering business. With the help of the people you love, you can advertise your part-time business. If it grows and becomes more lucrative than your current job, then think of the pros and cons of leaving your current job and focusing on developing the growing business. This way, you get to do things that you’re passionate about. Plus, you also get to make money out of it. Remember what successful people always say; to be a success, you have to do what you love most.

If you have marital problems and it’s making you lonely, then why not finally address the issue and have a talk with your spouse. Overcoming one big hurdle will make you stronger to overcome other obstacles and problems.

Focus on the Good

Things will be rocky. After all, the journey to finding one’s self and purpose is not easy, but if you focus on all the good things, especially during the rockiest moments, then you can easily rise above all your problems.

You can do these steps on your own, but if you don’t know where to start, then there’s no harm and shame in seeking help from a professional. The important thing is you find happiness and contentment in life.
